Meet Lulu! The Little Sustainable Elephant at the Heart of DluluKaloo

It all started with a little boy, some wooden toys and a whole lot of imagination.

On 9th October 2020, our little boy Ruadhan was nine months old. Up until that point, he had ZERO INTEREST in toys!

Then we discovered some beautiful wooden toys for him.

And everything changed.

He was fascinated by them. He played, explored, moved them around and discovered what he could do with them. We quickly realised there was something really special about simple, well-made toys that allow children to use their imagination and play in their own way.

We haven’t looked back since.

That little moment was the beginning of DluluKaloo.

But there was another very special person at the heart of our story, our gorgeous Daniela.

Daniela is our little toy expert. She selects, tests and approves all our toys. She helps us create play sets, chooses toy combinations and, most importantly, lets her imagination run wild.

So much of what DluluKaloo is today comes from seeing toys through her eyes.

Without Daniela, DluluKaloo simply wouldn’t exist.

And then there’s the name.

DluluKaloo was created by Daniela herself. These were two of her very first words:

“Dlulu” — meaning elephant.
“Kaloo” — meaning a ball.

And somehow, those two little words became the name of something that has grown into a world of wooden toys, imaginative play and childhood magic.

And that’s where Lulu comes in.

Our little elephant is now at the heart of DluluKaloo. She represents everything we love about childhood - fun, curiosity, imagination, discovery and joy.

From our logo to our website, Lulu is part of our story and a little reminder of why we started all of this in the first place.

We want children to have wonderful toys that inspire them to play, explore and create their own little worlds. And we want parents to feel good about the toys they bring into their homes.

What started with a nine-month-old boy who suddenly discovered the magic of wooden toys has become something very close to our hearts.

And we’re so happy you’re here to be part of it.
